Following very closely in her sister's footsteps, little Jasmine Jolyn swam for the very first time on July 31, 2011 at the age of 2 years and 10 months. Wow! Erin invited Mom, Dad and I up to the Metcalfe pool in the afternoon so that we could see Zoe swim. As I walked up to the gate, I could see Jasmine hopping up and down on the other side. "Fandra Fandra..see me swim" she yelled out when I opened the gate. "Alright" I said, but quickly followed it with "Where's Zoe?". Apprently Zoe was inside with Auntie Laurie. Erin said "actually - this is good since they are at 2 different levels - we`ll let Jasmine swim first". Now - I will admit I was expecting to see Jasmine jump into Erin`s arms and call it a day. I should have known better since Jasmine is quite determined and adventurous. So - Jamine places herself on the steps and jumps out towards Erin. Erin just kept backing up and backing up - and there was little Jasmine who kept kicking her legs and moving her arms....it was UNBELIEVABLE! I was truly shocked! Apparently it had happened earlier that afternoon. Not only was she swimming on her own, she was swimming with confidence and excitement! We all stood around and cheered her on - and she kept going, and going. She would take breaks in Erin`s arms or on the steps - but not for long. She kept throwing herself back in the water! I called her our little energizer bunny! Zoe did come out, but wasn`t much in the mood for swimming. :( She will be though - and will likely love that she and Jasmine can now swim together. I feel sorry for Jasmine`s swim instructor. Because of her age, she is forced into a class that is clearly beneath her own skill level. As Mom put it, when the teacher takes Jasmine and gently swooches her in the water, Jasmine will turn around, give her an "are you kidding me?" look, push away and swim off into the deep end! What a kid!
This was so awesome. I could not believe my eyes the first time I saw her do this. Fear is not part of her vocabulary
